Their relationship began in high school after their mothers, who met when Matthew and Lucia were babies, introduced them. Their first date was in 2013, seeing the movie Frozen and dining at Maggiano’s Little Italy. They officially became a couple in 2015.
In November 2023, during a leadership conference for GiGi’s Playhouse in Chicago, Matthew surprised Lucia with a heartfelt proposal during a photo shoot. He expressed his admiration, saying, “You always make me laugh, you always make me a better self,” before asking her to marry him. Lucia enthusiastically accepted, responding, “It’s a yes, babe! It’s definitely a yes!”
The proposal video went viral, garnering widespread attention and support, including from actress Viola Davis and Lucia’s favorite band, Big Time Rush.
